3 Ways to Be More Productive and Hit Your Goals

As real estate professionals, goals play a crucial role in our success. Use these tips to help reach, or exceed your goals.

It Starts with You

“You cannot pour from an empty cup.”

It means that you cannot be your most productive self and hit your goals, if you don’t first take care of yourself. Primarily, this starts with sleep. According to a study conducted by Phillips Respironics, participants stated that sleep was more important to their overall health and happiness than their significant other or financial security. But the same study also revealed that 96% of the participants acknowledged that their sleep quality was low. Ideally, the average adult needs seven to eight hours of sleep to feel their most productive throughout the day. When you get adequate and reliable sleep you can track when you feel the most productive and alert. When you do this, you can anticipate when you will be your most productive and schedule difficult or strenuous work for that time of day. For more information on how to track your sleep, the National Sleep Foundation has a free sleep diary available for download.

Personal care such as working out, eating well, and managing your stress can also feed right into hitting your goals and maintaining your productivity. A study conducted in June of this year found that meditation that led to a content-free state of mind in a deep meditative state supported the healthy function of the brain cortex.

Identify Time-Hogs

A goal is only a wish until it’s written down. So what are you using to track your goals? Calendar organizing, spreadsheets, and apps are all available to manage your daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly goals.

Ask yourself, what tasks are eating up your time? Oftentimes there are better workflow procedures and technologies that can help you be more productive. Tasks like sorting through your email are streamlined with tools like Emailga.me or Boomerang for Gmail that allow you to schedule emails to come back to your inbox at a later time. Apps like Evernote allow for easy note taking.

Reevaluate and Check-In

Flexibility and pragmatism play a crucial role in sustained productivity and hitting your goals. In addition to scheduling your tasks, also schedule a time each day or week to check-in with your goals and expectations.
